Your Ref. S/15420

Professor G.F. Gale
Vice-Chancellor
THE UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Dear Professor Gale,

Permanent Appointment Subject to Review: Dr D. Rindos

Dr Rindos has asked me to represent him in the matter of his tenure review. I refer to your letter of 13 May 1992 in which you state that you have extended the period of Dr Rindos's appointment subject to review to 31 December 1992.

This action is not in accordance with the University's own procedures. Those governing tenure state that the period of review can be extended only after submission of a summary of activities and a recommendation by a head of department that this occur. This process has not been followed in the case of Dr Rindos. The University cannot place an employee at a disadvantage by acting as if it has conducted a proper review in accordance with its procedures when it clearly has not. It does not have the option of extending the review period, but only that of confirming Dr Rindos's appointment on 13 June.

Please contact me if you wish to discuss this matter further.

Yours sincerely,

K.A. Evans
FAUSA Industrial Officer (WA)
