    LOST UWA REPORT FOUND, CENSORED
    By Joe Poprzeczny

The University of WA has released a highly censored version of a report on its controversial archaeology program which was headed by Professor Sandra Bowdler.

The report, compiled in 1988, could not be found in the UWA's archives or other files until a fortnight ago.

The university is the subject of a parliamentary inquiry into its handling of long-standing problems in the archaeology department.

Parliament is studying UWA's filing and record-keeping systems to the extent that it has installed mechanism to prevent interferences.

The report was eventually found and a copy sent to THE SUNDAY TIMES with a covering letter by registrar Malcom Orr

"I attach the report which has been cleared for release with certain personal references deleted," said Mr Orr.

He said UWA believed it could legitimately withhold the censored sections.

When Mr Orr was asked the whereabouts of the report a fortnight ago, he said it had no status because it was not accepted by the planning and resources committee.

But several campus committees which met early in 1988 referred to recommendations to overcome problems.
